Deaf Awareness/Sign Language. Daisy and her mum, Heather, join us for a sign language lesson. Daisy is deaf and she and her mum are fluent in sign language which they will be sharing with us by teaching us some of the basics. Come along and learn how to sign some key words as well as some interesting facts about language in the deaf communities around us.

Meet the Mafias. Ever since The Godfather, there’s been no avoiding the Italian mafia in popular culture: mafiosi pop up everywhere from computer games to car insurance ads. And yet, many people are surprised to learn that the mafia are still active in Italy – and that there’s more than one.

Our Annual General Meeting will be followed by a talk and demo on the Amazing World of Fungi. Fundamental to life on earth and more closely related to animals than plants, fungi give us bread, beer and wine, antibiotics and a huge number of other useful things as well as supporting trees and literally the soil we walk on. Local fungi expert Joe McSorley will give a talk on this fascinating topic.
